My name is Zane de Ponte and I am a candidate on the D66 list (#19) for the municipal council elections on March 18, 2026 in The Hague. I believe in a city where everyone gets the chance to build a better life. I want to represent all residents of our city, especially residents with a smaller voice such as Arubans and Antilleans.
On this website you can read more about my motivation, my positions and how we can stay in touch with each other.

I would like to make a positive contribution to the well-being and prosperity of the residents of our beautiful city. That is why I am a candidate for the municipal council of The Hague. I moved from Aruba to the Netherlands in 2012 with the desire to study, work, and build a better life. I know how valuable it is when that opportunity is within reach. At the same time, I know that equal opportunities are unfortunately not yet a matter of course.
That realization is at the core of why I commit myself to a city where people, whether they come from far away or were born here, get the chance and space to build a better life.
The Caribbean Dutch community in The Hague is large and faces unique challenges in the areas of education, work, and housing. Every year, hundreds of students from our Caribbean parts of the Kingdom – Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and Saba – move to The Hague to study. Unfortunately, it is known that study success among Caribbean Dutch students throughout the Netherlands is approximately 40%. Caribbean students struggle with integration, often have a language gap, and often do not know the way to the 'right counter' for help and support from the government. In addition, finding an internship, a first job, and housing is particularly challenging. Newcomers to the city – from far or near – also face similar issues. I find that unjust and am happy to commit myself to a city where Caribbean Dutch people and other newcomers are better helped and facilitated in building a better life.
I would like to represent the residents of our municipality, especially the residents who have a smaller voice and are less inclined to go to the polls, such as the Caribbean community and other newcomers. I want to be their representative in the city, so they know they can come to me with questions or concerns about what is happening in their street, their neighborhood, and their district.
Three pillars for a better city
I strive for a city where everyone gets equal opportunities and has the freedom to shape their own future and build a better life. This requires, among other things:
It is almost impossible for young people and starters to find a home: the housing shortage is high. More affordable housing must be added.
The Hague must be a green city where people live happily and healthily together.
As a candidate in position 19 of D66, I can only be elected as a city council member with preference votes. Your vote makes the difference!
